PHILLIES SWEEP MARLINS IN THRILLING FINALE
Miami, FL – In a thrilling conclusion to a three-game series, the Philadelphia Phillies took down the Miami Marlins 5-4 at LoanDepot Park last night. The win marked the team’s second sweep of the season and their fifth consecutive road win.
Kyle Schwarber led the charge for the Phillies, crushing a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning to give the team a 3-2 advantage. The Marlins responded with a run of their own in the bottom half, but Phillies’ ace Aaron Nola shut the door in the sixth, escaping a bases-loaded jam with a crucial strikeout.
The Phillies tacked on two more runs in the eighth, courtesy of a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly from J.T. Realmuto. The Marlins threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but Phillies’ closer Seranthony Domínguez closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning to secure the victory.
“It was a big win for us, especially after coming from behind,” said Phillies’ manager Rob Thomson. “Our guys showed a lot of resilience and heart tonight.”
The win moves the Phillies to within a game of first-place Atlanta in the NL East. They’ll look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Wrigley Field to face the Chicago Cubs in a three-game series starting tonight.
Kyle Schwarber’s two-run homer was the 25th of the season for the star outfielder, and J.T. Realmuto’s sacrifice fly gave him 60 RBIs on the year. Aaron Nola’s outing marked his ninth win of the season, and Seranthony Domínguez notched his 15th save.
The Phillies will look to carry their winning streak into the Windy City, where they’ll face a Cubs team that’s struggling to find consistency.
