**Mikaela Shiffrin Breaks Maribor 3-PEAK Triple Title Streak with Victory in Slovenian Downhill**
In a thrilling display of speed and agility, American skier Mikaela Shiffrin broke a remarkable triple title streak in Maribor, Slovenia, claiming the top spot in the women’s downhill event on the weekend. The 27-year-old Olympic champion edged out compatriot Breezy Johnson and Switzerland’s Corinne Suter to take the gold medal, ending a string of three consecutive victories for compatriot Lindsey Vonn.
Shiffrin, who has been in top form this season, showed no signs of slowing down as she charged down the treacherous Maribor course, navigating through the challenging 3-PEAK slope with ease. Her time of 1:34.67 was 0.17 seconds faster than Johnson, who took the silver medal. Suter rounded out the podium with a third-place finish.
The victory marked Shiffrin’s second downhill win of the season, solidifying her position as one of the top contenders for the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup overall title. The American skier has been on a tear lately, winning four out of the last five events she has competed in.
Lindsey Vonn, the defending champion, had been on a remarkable triple title streak in Maribor, winning the last three downhill events in the Slovenian resort. However, Shiffrin’s dominant performance on the weekend marked an end to Vonn’s streak and a new chapter in the American skier’s illustrious career.
The women’s downhill event in Maribor was the second leg of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, which continues with a men’s downhill event scheduled for this weekend.
