Pochettino Calls Manchester City’s Recent Form a “Period of Deception”
In a recent BBC interview, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino described Manchester City’s recent performance as a “period of deception.” He said the team’s style of play, while appearing dominant, may not be as effective or sustainable as it seems.
Pochettino noted that teams often rely on possession and high pressing, but without a clear strategic framework these can become mere showpieces rather than decisive factors. He emphasized that success depends on adaptability, depth, and mental resilience.
His comments come as the Premier League sees a shift toward more fluid, counter‑pressing systems. Clubs are increasingly scrutinizing the balance between technical skill and tactical discipline. Pochettino’s critique reminds teams that modern success requires more than flashy play; it needs a coherent strategy that can adapt to changing dynamics.
