**Phillies’ Ace Wheeler Throws Shutout in Dominant Win over Braves**
In a thrilling matchup that saw the Philadelphia Phillies take on their arch-rivals, the Atlanta Braves, Phillies ace pitcher Zack Wheeler proved why he’s one of the best in the business. Wheeler dominated the Braves lineup, pitching a shutout in a 5-0 Phillies win that sent the sellout crowd at Citizens Bank Park into raptures.
Wheeler, who has been on a tear of late, was lights out all evening, allowing just five hits and striking out 11 Braves batters. The right-hander was equally effective in the field, snagging a line drive and preventing a potential hit.
“I’m just trying to take it one pitch at a time,” Wheeler said in the post-game press conference. “The defense made some big plays behind me and we were able to get the shutout.”
The Phillies offense, meanwhile, was sparked by a two-run homer from third baseman Alec Bohm in the fourth inning. Center fielder Kyle Schwarber added a solo shot in the sixth, and second baseman Nick Castellanos drove in two more runs with a double in the seventh.
The win moves the Phillies to within a half-game of the division-leading New York Mets, and leaves them just a game back in the NL East standings. With Wheeler leading the way, the Phillies are looking stronger than ever as they head into the final stretch of the season.
“It’s a great feeling to be in this position,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. “We’ve got a talented roster and a great team dynamic. I’m proud of these guys for the way they’re playing right now.”
